The site of the proposed development in Termon, Blacklion, is located adjacent to Killinagh Rectory and beside a small housing development. The construction of the small housing development was monitored in early 2002 (Excavations 2002, No. 63, 02E0134), with negative results. The current site consists of a large irregular field located immediately south of the earlier development. The proposed development will include the construction of a single house, access, garage, landscaping and connection to the existing wastewater treatment plant located east of the proposed house location. The closest known monument to the site includes CV002–007 (ringfort), located 80m south-west.
Five test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. All five trenches measured 10m long and 1.8m wide and were excavated to a depth ranging from 0.25 to 0.5m. A large area of the site, roughly the location of the proposed house, had previously been stripped of topsoil and infilled with up to 0.35m of hardcore as part of the earlier, adjacent development. No evidence of archaeological activity was revealed.
