Testing was undertaken at Kilquilly, Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, prior to the construction of five industrial units and an associated distribution road. Test-trenching commenced at the site on 20 November 2006 and lasted for two days. This was carried out using a 10-tonne excavator with a flat, toothless bucket. A total of eleven trenches (724m in length) were investigated across the test area, which measured 266m north-east/south-west by 219m. Nothing of archaeological significance was revealed on site as a result of this test-trenching programme. It is worth taking note of the topography of the site, which is mainly below and between the summits of two small hills and, as such, the archaeological potential of most of the site is limited due to the slope. However, the lowest point of the site was waterlogged and adjacent to an area of peat bog and therefore may have a greater archaeological potential.
