An assessment was carried out in May 2006 in advance of a proposed development at a site located to the west and south of Flynn’s Garage, Dublin Road, Tullow, near the site of a 17th-century castle, CW008–044.
Seven test-trenches were mechanically excavated across the site, down to the natural soils to a depth ranging between 0.25 and 1.5m. The entire development area measures 6925m (1.71 acres).
No features of archaeological significance were recorded. This proposed development area has been heavily landscaped/truncated in modern times and, due to the construction of a storm drain and electric cables at the northern end of the site, Trenches 1, 3 and 4 were not fully excavated.
