Monitoring of topsoil-stripping took place on the site of this development to the north-west of Carlow town in June 2006. It uncovered a large field boundary running east–west parallel to the stream at the southern boundary of the site. A number of pits and post-holes were discovered, some of which contained charcoal and heat-shattered stones. In the south-western area of this development, five small pits (,0.7m) containing charcoal and burnt-stone material were uncovered, along with a large pit containing stones within a dark fill. Two shallow spreads of fulacht-type material and two post-holes with charcoal were also discovered. It is possible that there was a fulacht fiadh nearby. Only a small percentage of this site has been monitored. Further work will take place in 2007.
