In advance of the construction of a residential dwelling at 33 Ballysavage Road, a desk-top survey revealed that the proposed development site is located in the immediate vicinity of ANT50–41. An on-site evaluation confirmed the presence of a souterrain in close proximity to the development site and the possibility that it extends towards the development limits. Monitoring of ground penetrating works confirmed the location of a second chamber extending into the area of the development site. This second souterrain chamber measured 4.55m by 1.85m with an exposed width of 1.75m, but, due to health and safety restrictions, the full depth of the chamber could not be established. After consultation with DOE:EHS, a small section of this chamber was excavated to facilitate the insertion of a foundation trench.
