Testing was carried out at Seymour Hill Industrial Estate, Seymour Hill Mews, Dunmurry, in advance of redevelopment for industrial units. The development site measured c. 72m east–west by 140m and was used most recently as a carpark with grassed area. Testing took place in March 2006 and a total of eight test-trenches were excavated across the site. Trenches 1–3 were inserted within the previous carpark area and measured between 17 and 25m in length. The overburden measured up to 0.5m in depth and comprised modern build-up deposits of stone hardcore and bitumen, overlying natural subsoil, which comprised compact mid-orange/brown sandy clay. Trench 4 was inserted within the grassed area and measured 20m in length, removing 0.2m of topsoil to reveal undisturbed subsoil. Trenches 5–8 measured between 10 and 25m in length and removal of topsoil (average 0.25m in depth) also revealed clean subsoil.
No archaeological deposits were encountered within any of the eight trenches investigated within the development confines.
