When first exposed, this site consisted of a ploughed-down burnt spread mound that was 10m north–south by 10m, with a small patch of similar material measuring 0.6m north–south by 0.5m at the south-west edge. Removal of the burnt-mound material revealed a large irregular subsoil-cut depression, 9.6m east–west by 8.5m by 0.2m deep, with two subsoil-cut features in its base. The main feature uncovered was a subrectangular trough, which measured 1.3m east–west by 1.05m by 0.4m deep and was filled with mid-grey/black silty clay containing large stones sealed by the sticky black burnt-mound material. The small patch at the south-west proved to be the upper fill of a large, shallow subcircular pit, which was 0.86m north–south by 0.85m by 0.13m deep.
