Monitoring was undertaken at the site of a proposed erection of a 3m-high aluminium sculpture 4m north of the Albert Memorial, Queens Square, Belfast, which is part of the ongoing redevelopment of the area by the Laganside Corporation. A 2.5m-wide foundation trench was mechanically excavated to formation level, located at a depth of 0.75m below the current ground surface. Other than a number of 20th-century surfaces and a modern drain cut, there were no archaeological deposits uncovered within the trench.
