This site was excavated as part of the recently completed BGE (Northern Ireland) gas pipeline. Trial-trenching had revealed two possible linear ditches in the vicinity of a pair of conjoined raths. The trench was re-excavated to reveal a mid-brown clayey topsoil, 0.3m thick, overlying the compact brown/orange clay subsoil. A linear cut, 0.75m wide by 0.5m deep and filled with charcoal-flecked compact grey/brown clay, was uncovered 1.8m from the northern end of the trench. A second linear cut, 1.4m wide by 0.5m deep and filled with charcoal-flecked compact mid-brown clay, was uncovered 18m from the northern end of the trench. Excavation showed these to be modern agricultural features.
