Monitoring was undertaken on 22 September 2006 of ground-reduction works associated with the insertion of foundations for a single house, garage and access driveway at the site of a proposed development at Parkfield Road, Ahoghill (Ballybeg townland), Co. Antrim. All mechanical ground-breaking was conducted by means of a mechanical excavator furnished with a toothless, flat-bottomed trenching bucket. The topsoil varied in depth between 0.3 and 0.6m and its removal revealed a layer of modern infill across the site, c. 0.2–1.5m deep. Removal of the infill layer within the foundation trenches revealed natural subsoil, a mid-orange boulder clay, across the development area. No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of this monitoring exercise.
