Testing of a proposed housing development at Ballyhack took place on 17 January 2005. The development site, which is situated 400m to the north-east of the historic village of Ballyhack, consisted of an open green field under rough pasture. The waters of the River Suir/Waterford Harbour are visible 500m to the south-west of the site. A series of six test-trenches was excavated by mechanical excavator fitted with a 1.4m-wide toothless bucket. The trenches were excavated in areas of maximum construction impact: in the footprints of the proposed houses and in the area of the proposed storm-water tank and oil interceptor. No archaeological features or deposits were uncovered in any of the test-trenches.
