An underwater archaeological assessment took place of five watercourses that will be impacted upon by the proposed N11 Gorey–Arklow road scheme. The proposed bypass is to be constructed to the east of Gorey town and runs towards Arklow, linking up with the Arklow bypass. There are five locations where the proposed road will cross over rivers.
River crossing 1, Banoge River, is located in the townland of Coolnaveagh/Knockduff. River crossing 2 is an unnamed tributary of the Inch River located in the townland of Tinnock Lower/Parkbaun. River crossing 3 is an unnamed tributary of the Inch River located in the townland of Boleybaun/Cronecribbin/
Perrymount. River crossing 4, Inch River, is located in the townland of Inch Killybegs. River crossing 5, Clonough River, is located in the townland of Killybegs/Ballyellin Lower.
A visual inspection was carried out and a full metal-detection survey was completed. No significant archaeological features were identified during the river survey and metal detection failed to reveal any possible archaeological finds. A number of bridge features and revetment stones lining the riverbanks were identified but all appear to be of relatively modern date.
