Testing was undertaken in a greenfield site on the western outskirts of Wexford town at Ballyboggan, Carcur. The works were carried out further to the results from an archaeological impact assessment, including a walkover survey, where a large lozenge-shaped anomaly and a linear depression were identified. One of the features, aligned south-west/north-east and with a possible enclosing ditch along its south-east corner, was raised between 1.5m and 2.5m from the surrounding ground surface. The other comprised an east–west-aligned linear depression, 30m wide across its top and with an approximate depth of between 2.5m and 3m. The two features were in adjoining fields, 125m apart. Five trenches were opened on the site of the two features in order to establish their provenance. Both, however, proved to be of natural origin.
