The excavation of the remains of thirteen archaeological sites that had been previously identified during centre-line testing along the proposed route of the N6 Kinnegad–Kilbeggan motorway in the townlands of Ballykilmore (one site) and Rathgarrett (twelve sites), Co. Westmeath (Excavations 2004, No. 1787, 04E0879), took place during the period l7 December 2004 to 12 January 2005. Only four of the sites identified during testing in the townland of Rathgarrett produced any diagnostic remains that could be interpreted as constituting archaeological evidence. At the site of Rathgarrett 2 the remains of a modern hearth and a modern bovine burial were excavated.
