The Mullingar gas feeder main and distribution pipe runs from Mullingar to Gaybrook Demesne, Co. Westmeath. The proposed pipe route runs along the existing fabric of Austin Friars Street, Main Street and Dominick Street, Castle Street and Mount Street, through the zone of archaeological potential of Mullingar town. Construction works were carried out on Pearse Street and Oliver Plunkett Street periodically in September and November 2004 and were monitored by Sinéad Phelan under licence 04E0839 (Excavations 2004, No. 1756). The licence was extended by the writer in December 2005 to monitor further construction work along Pearse Street and Austin Friars Street. Nothing of archaeological significance was found during monitoring.
