The excavation of the remains of thirteen archaeological sites that had been previously identified during centre-line testing along the proposed route of the N6 Kinnegad–Kilbeggan motorway in the townland of Killavalley, Co. Westmeath (Excavations 2004, No. 1787, 04E0879), took place during the period 12 January to 18 February 2005. Only five of the sites identified produced any diagnostic features that could be interpreted as archaeological evidence. At the site of Killavally 8 the remains of the burnt-mound material of a fulachta fiadh, as well as its accompanying trough and waterhole, were excavated.
