Subsequent to geophysical survey and test-trenching by David Sweetman of this proposed development site within the zone of archaeological potential for Kilbeggan and across the road from the site of a Cistercian abbey (Excavations 2004, No. 1742), monitoring of topsoil-stripping took place in January 2005.
A number of features were identified during the monitoring, including an enclosed burial ground containing c. 70 burials, part of the possible enclosure of the Cistercian monastery located across the road, part of a possible earlier enclosure and a number of modern field drains and ditches.
