The excavations at Site 5, Cornaher, were carried out in advance of the N6 Kilbeggan–Kinnegad road scheme. The site consisted of a large pit full of burnt stone and charcoal. The pit was subcircular in plan and measured 2.4m by 1.6m and was 0.35m deep. It contained two fills. The upper fill was dark-brown silty clay with some charcoal. The basal fill was dark-brown/grey silty clay with much burnt stone and charcoal. The natural the pit had been dug into showed evidence of in situ burning in places. The pit had also been truncated in places by modern agricultural activity.
