The excavations at Site 3.1, Cornaher, were carried out in advance of the N6 Kilbeggan–Kinnegad road scheme. The site consisted of two spreads of burnt-mound material. Both spreads were truncated in places by modern agricultural activity. The first spread was situated in the western part of the site. It consisted of dark-brown/black silty clay that contained much burnt stone and charcoal. The spread measured 2.3m by 2m and was 0.1m in depth. The second spread was situated to the immediate north-east of the first. Its fill was also similar to the first and it measured 1.9m by 1.8m and had a depth of 0.04m. Both of the spreads had been badly disturbed and there was some oil spillage over the area.
