Testing was undertaken to the rear of No. 20, The Mall, Waterford, as part of granted planning permission to build an extension. Two trenches were opened on the site. No archaeological deposits pertaining to a date earlier than the mid-19th century were discovered. Testing revealed a widespread layer of builders’ rubble. It was considered this was the result of earlier renovation works carried out on the site over the previous one hundred years. Lack of rear access prohibited the removal of waste material, thus resulting in it being deposited on the site.
