Monitoring was undertaken within the confines of the zone of archaeological potential for the city of Waterford as part of additional work on the Waterford Broadband Scheme. The works entailed a drop point connection along part of the broadband cable network at the High Street/Arundel Square junction in the city centre and within the Viking and medieval part of the town. A wall was uncovered in the course of digging for a chamber. It was 0.4m below ground level and was aligned east-south-east/west-north-west. It extended for a length of 2.2m and was at least 1.2m in width, with some of it under the baulk of the opening. On the discovery of the wall, work on the chamber was abandoned, with the wall being preserved in situ. Cartographic evidence suggested the wall was associated with post-medieval buildings formerly occupying the northern end of Arundel Square.
