Testing was undertaken in October 2005 at Carraig an Aird, Kilbarry, Co. Waterford. Five trenches, measuring 685.9m in length in total and revealing c. 12.5% of the development, were opened using a JCB mechanical excavator. The site is low-lying flat land on the south-western outskirts of Waterford city and is prone to flooding on a regular basis. A number of features recorded were possibly post-medieval drainage features.
