An assessment was undertaken in support of a planning application for permission to construct 50 dwelling houses and a temporary site entrance with associated ancillary works at Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir. Testing identified the presence of thirteen deposits of burnt material, a linear feature and a possible pit. These features may be representative of larger areas of archaeologically significant activity. The area was subsequently monitored, resulting in additional archaeology being identified.

Four areas were excavated, of which three were of archaeological significance. Area 2 was a disturbed fulacht fiadh with seven associated troughs and three pits. Area 3 was a large D-shaped enclosure, whilst Area 4 consisted of the remains of three troughs, possibly associated with a fulacht fiadh probably located outside the area of excavation.
