Monitoring the excavation of foundation trenches for a two-storey extension to the rear of the old library on the south side of Main Street was carried out on 18 October 2005. The site is located within the zone of archaeological potential for the village of Golden. It lies north-east of the bridge and castle (a late 15th/16th-century tower-house on an island in the river). The Church of Ireland church and graveyard lies north of the site and the Main Street.
Monitoring the excavation of foundation trenches did not uncover features of archaeological significance. The foundations were largely cut into natural gravel, apart from a clay feature of unknown date.
