Monitoring works of engineering site investigations were undertaken as part of the proposed Suir River Drainage Scheme, Clonmel. The investigations entailed opening slit trenches, trial pits and boreholes. Some of the work was positioned inside the zone of archaeological potential for Clonmel town, with the remainder sited in greenfield areas along the River Suir valley. The investigation sites were positioned to avoid hitting known archaeological remains such as the town wall or town ditch in Clonmel. A small number of openings were carried out near a mill (SMR 83:16) associated with the nearby Cistercian abbey, a church and graveyard site (SMR 83:20) and an archaeological complex (SMR 83:21). However, none directly impacted on any of these monuments and no archaeological remains of any consequence were found.
