Pre-development test excavation was carried out within the zone of archaeological potential around a medieval church at Ballykelly, Cashel. Prior to excavation, the site was a green field without any surface indication of archaeological site(s). The excavation uncovered the upper levels of a medieval pit with 12th/13th-century Saintonge pottery on the surface, a second pit of unknown date with animal bone on the surface and a ditch with a 1.9m width on the surface. These features were concentrated in one area of a large landbank and close to the medieval parish church.
