Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was conducted within a greenfield area in advance of a single house at Ballyhistbeg, Ardfinnan, Clonmel. The scheme encompassed an area of 700m2, with the footprint of the proposed building being 160m2. Monitoring took place on 12 January 2005. A road (SMR 87:33) ran adjacent to the site of development.
Topsoil-stripping achieved depths of 0.29–0.38m, of which the topsoil comprised the upper 0.15–0.2m and rested directly upon the underlying natural subsoil, which consisted of a yellow sandy silty clay with frequent inclusions of decayed and undecayed limestone and some sporadic sandstone. Nothing of an archaeological nature was encountered in the course of the works.
