Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was conducted within a greenfield area in advance of a single house at Ardmayle West, Cashel. The scheme encompassed an area of 3500m2, of which the impact of the proposed building is 250m2. Works took place on 5 and 6 July 2005. During monitoring of the topsoil-stripping for the driveway an oval-shaped pit which contained a rich charcoal fill with burnt clay inclusions was noted situated 3.7m from the road edge. The feature measured 2.1m in length east–west by 1.1m. It was recorded and preserved in situ. Since there were no further impacts upon the pit, a layer of plastic sheeting was placed over it prior to the laying of stone associated with the installation of the driveway.
