The site of the proposed development at Carrowmore townland is located c. 1km from Carrowmore megalithic cemetery, Co. Sligo. The proposed development involves the construction of an extension to the rear of a house and upgrading of the existing services. The site is located near a barrow, located south-west of the proposed development in an adjacent field. The development site consists primarily of an existing small extension to the rear of a house and a small back garden. A small soakaway for surface water will also be inserted into the site. The septic tank and percolation area, while being upgraded, will remain in their present locations.
Test excavation was carried out in January 2005. Two test-trenches were excavated, measuring 10m by 1.2m and 4m by 1.2m. The trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.7–0.8m. There was no evidence of any archaeological finds or features.
