Monitoring of excavation works associated with the extension to the visitor centre at Carrowmore, Co. Sligo, was undertaken over a period of two days in December 2005. The proposed works involve the provision of a ramp for wheelchair access to be located to the south of the extension to the visitor centre and the setting back of a section of the wall by the existing road. Monitoring at the site had previously been undertaken by the writer (Excavations 2003, No. 1630, 03E1516). An area measuring c. 6m by 2.5m was reduced in level to facilitate the new ramp to the south of the visitor centre. Much of this area had been previously disturbed and monitored in 2003. To the east of the visitor centre a narrow trench (c. 0.5m wide) was excavated to facilitate the construction of a new stone wall. The trench was excavated for a length of c. 12m and averaged 0.55m in depth. The stratigraphy consisted of a brown loose topsoil which extended for a depth of 0.6m in the east and overlay a light-brown sandy subsoil. Finds from the trench included 20th-century glass and plastic fragments. No features of archaeological significance were encountered.
