The site of the proposed development at Mullaghmore townland, Co. Roscommon, is located on the Carrick-on-Shannon to Frenchpark road on the outskirts of Carrick-on-Shannon. It consists of one large field, with the proposed development consisting of 48 houses, access, landscaping and related services. Nine test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. All measured 1.25m wide and were of varying lengths, including 2m by 150m, 1m by 110m, 4m by 80m and 1m by 40m. All were excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.4m. The same three contexts were revealed in all nine trenches, with no evidence of archaeological activity.
