The site of the proposed development is located c. 1 mile to the south of Boyle, Co. Roscommon. It is proposed to build a development of 32 houses and services in addition to a commercial development with shared access from the N61. A barrow is located within the bounds of the proposed development site. A second barrow is present just to the east of the proposed developments. Buffer zones of 20m around the barrows have been incorporated into the site plan. A total of fourteen test-trenches were excavated across the site in February 2005. All trenches were 1.9m wide and excavated to a depth of 0.35–0.5m. All trenches yielded some evidence of modern use, including furrows in some trenches and early modern crockery, bottle glass and lumps of coal in the topsoil. No evidence of archaeological activity was revealed.
