This is the second of two proposed adjacent single-house developments at Drumcleavry, on the Roscommon side of the Shannon, c. 1km to the east of Jamestown, Co. Leitrim. The site is 500m north of the large prehistoric earthwork site known as the Doon of Drumsna. There is a potential earthwork site located on the site as indicated on the first- and second-edition OS maps. The original proposed house location, 10m to the east of the current proposed location, was previously tested under the same licence, revealing the presence of a circular ditch 20m from the proposed new house location. The ditch is 1.8–1.5m wide and 0.43m deep. Only part of the ditch was revealed and it may be part of a circular enclosure of 20m1 in diameter. It is possible this ditch indicates that the location of the earthwork, as depicted on the early OS maps, is wrong. Some small amounts of cremated bone and charcoal were revealed from the test section. Samples were taken for dating.
Four trenches, 10m by 1.5m, excavated for the proposed new house location revealed no evidence of archaeological activity. The circular ditch was recorded and resealed and will be preserved in situ.
