The site of the proposed development at Drishoge townland, Co. Roscommon, is located on the N4 Sligo–Dublin road on the outskirts of Carrick-on-Shannon. The site consists of a single large field, with the proposed development to include the construction of a large U-shaped three-storey retail unit with parking, access and connection to services. The closest known monument is SMR 11:22, a ringfort, situated 300m to the south-west. Five test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural in November 2005. All measured 1.5m wide and were of varying lengths, including one of 150m, one of 40m and three of 60m. All were excavated to a depth of 0.4–0.75m. The same three contexts were revealed in each of the three trenches, with no evidence of any archaeological activity.
