Pre-development testing was carried out on 15 June 2005 at a site in advance of its development at Carrowreagh townland, Bellanagare, Co. Roscommon. The proposed development, the construction of a forest track/access road to connect two blocks of proposed forest, was located in the vicinity of a moated site (SMR 21:32). The proposed track/road measured c. 320m in length and 10m in width. The monument was located 80m from the proposed forest track.
Four trenches were excavated along the route of the proposed track. They measured 102m, 65.7m, 81m and 41m long, 0.9–1.2m wide and 0.2–0.65m deep. Below the topsoil was sterile orange/grey/brown plastic clay. No artefacts were recovered. The testing revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
