The site of the proposed development is located in Carrowgarve, just outside Tulsk, Co. Roscommon. The site is within a substantial archaeological complex that includes a field system and pits. It is also near a number of other archaeological sites and complexes, including the historic site of Carnfree (SMR 28:69), the inauguration site of the O’Conor kings of Connacht, located c. 500m to the south-east. The proposed development will be highly visible within the surrounding archaeological landscape. It is to consist of a single dwelling house, access and septic tank/percolation area. Four trenches, measuring 10m by 1m, were excavated across the site, focusing upon the foundations of the buildings, site accesses and septic tank/percolation areas. All of the trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.35m. No archaeological material was revealed.
