Testing was undertaken along the southern portion of c. 15km of centre-line chainage (Ch 6920–15740), where it is proposed to realign the existing N2 between Clontibret and Castleblayney. The work was carried out on behalf of Monaghan County Council and the National Roads Authority over three weeks in April 2005. Three archaeological sites were recorded during the linear testing programme. Tullyvin 1 (see No. 1286 below, Chainage 14410) consists of a small pit with associated pottery of uncertain date. Grig 1 (see No. 1269 above, Chainage 10800) consists of a circular area of charcoal-rich soil containing heat-affected stone measuring 2.1m by 1.85m. Three possible post-holes are located close to this deposit. Grig 2 (see No. 1270 above, Chainage 10680) is similar to Grig 1 and consists of a circular area of charcoal-rich soil and heat-affected stones measuring 1.95m by 1.25m. The feature is slightly truncated on the east side by a drainage ditch.
