An excavation in advance of road development was carried out over a period of three days at Avalreagh, Co. Monaghan, as part of the N2 Castleblayney–Clontibret road realignment scheme. The site was uncovered during linear test-trench stripping for the road alignment scheme. The site encompassed the remains of a post-medieval farm structure thought to be a shed for animals and the remains of a possible bawn wall. During the course of excavation the remains of boundary walls were found, as were foundations for a shed. A possible water trough for animals was discovered. A bawn wall enclosed the site at some stage.
