Test-trenching revealed the possible remains of part of a medieval stone building at the street-front end of the site. Medieval cultivated spoil overlay a very deep deposit of well-preserved medieval organic material to the rear of the house. These deposits extend down to at least 2.5m below modern ground level. They have been encountered in an adjacent site previously, but their significance is unclear.
