The proposed redevelopment on Main Street, Nobber, will involve the demolition of a two-storey premises and subsequent construction of a two-storey commercial premises. The new premises will front on to the Main Street and occupy the site of the existing structure, but the rear of the new structure will extend further east. Foundations will be by means of a number of 1m-wide trenches.
Four test-pits were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. A number of features of archaeological potential were identified in three of the pits. Only one of these areas could be accurately dated: Test-pit 1 produced two sherds of medieval pottery from a deposit at the base of the pit. The other features, a wall and a pit, are undated. The results of the testing indicate that localised features and/or deposits of possible archaeological potential survive within the footprint of the proposed development.
