An assessment and test excavation was carried out as part of a pre-planning investigation at St Seachnaill’s Church, Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath. The proposed development consisted of an extension to the church, which is located within the zone of archaeological potential of the historic village of Dunshaughlin. Six test-trenches were excavated around the northern area of the site; two were situated to the west of the tower (Trenches D and E) while a further four were situated at the eastern end of the building close to the northern wall (Trenches A-C and F). The remains of 59 human skeletons were identified to the north and west of the existing church.
