The site, at Balgeeth, Assey, Co. Meath, was identified during centre-line trenching as an area of concentrated burning and soil discoloration. A deposit of charcoal-rich soil and fire-shattered stones suggested that the site might represent a burnt mound. Two pits were also located on site as well as a linear stone revetment. These features are likely to be related to the burnt-mound material. The material overlying most of the archaeology on site represents material washed in or silted up after the abandonment of the site.
