Test-trenching was carried out in July 2005 on six adjacent sites, before a planning application. Twelve test-trenches were opened. A number of anomalies were found. All of these except one proved to be early modern or later. In Trench 3, Feature 2 may have been archaeological. It was a curvilinear area of burning, 0.8m across and 0.1–0.12m deep. The fill was dark-brown silty clay, with an orange and red heat-discoloured lens along its edges. It contained occasional mortar inclusions, charcoal and two sherds of medieval pottery. The dark material ran out of the northern edge of the trench, where it measured 0.25m by 0.04m.
