The Newport road realignment scheme involves the construction of 3km of new road immediately west of Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Groundworks associated with this scheme are being monitored. Two burnt spreads were found during monitoring and these were excavated under licence 05E1056 (see No. 1119, Excavations 2005). Excavation is ongoing at the site of a windmill (SMR 78:10) at Drumshinnagh, under licence 05E0733 (see No. 1118, Excavations 2005). Work on this scheme is ongoing.
