Mayo County Council proposes to provide a water supply to the Shell gas terminal site at Bellanaboy Bridge, in north Co. Mayo, a distance of 7km originating from Carrowmore reservoir. The archaeological work involved monitoring the excavation of a narrow trench through an unfenced area of blanket bog for 600m proceeding onto the south side of the Belmullet to Glenamoy road for the remainder of the route. The excavation crossed three small rivers at Muigernoon, Meenanark and Ballinaboy townlands and also crossed into the townlands of Faulagh, Bellagelly South and Muingerroon South.
The linear development did not impact directly on any known archaeological remains and no archaeological material or deposits were uncovered in any of the excavated trenches.
