Test-trenching was carried out on the route of a proposed access road on 22 April 2005 at Redcow, Dundalk. The proposed development will consist of a warehouse constructed on a five-acre site. It is proposed to construct an access road from the existing Old Newry road along the north side of the site. The line of this proposed access route is currently bisected by an existing field boundary.
Only the proposed route of the access road was tested during this phase. The area of the proposed warehouse will not be tested until a geophysical survey of the site has been completed.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in either of the test-trenches.
