A test excavation was conducted near Kilcurly House, Kilcurly, Dundalk, on 21 December 2005. The site, AR53, is located on the route of the North/South Gas Pipeline. It was identified during the EIA from aerial photographs taken on the proposed pipeline route corridor, where it is visible as a circular ‘enclosure’ c. 35–40m in diameter. The site was not visible on the ground during field-walking. Two 30m-long trenches were excavated across the site along the route of the pipeline. Nothing of archaeological significance was discovered in either of the trenches.
