Testing was carried out on 25 April 2005 on the site at Moe’s Bar on Park Street. Two parallel test-trenches were excavated east to west across the site; they contained modern material to depths of 0.7–0.95m. At a depth of 1m within Trench 2, a cobbled area, c. 3m in length, was revealed. Large flagstones were revealed at a depth of 1m within Trench 1. These continued from the western extent of the trench for a distance of 11m and may represent the top of a disused culvert. A well, of possibly drystone construction, was uncovered at the eastern extent of Trench 1. This was circular in shape, c. 1.3m in diameter and of unknown depth. All three features are most likely to be post-medieval in date. Further mitigation was carried out by Robert O’Hara under a licence transfer.
