Seven trenches were excavated across the proposed development area. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded from the trenches. Evidence from the trenches generally produced disturbed rubble overlying the natural alluvial clay. However, Trenches 1, 3, 4 and 7 did produce some evidence for peaty clay with seashells, which may represent the remains of historic garden soils. The remains of a foundation wall associated with the recently demolished buildings were uncovered in Trenches 1 and 7. These buildings are visible on the third-edition OS map of 1907.
