An assessment including testing was carried out at Anne Street, Dundalk, Co. Louth. The development plans include the change of use, refurbishment and construction of an extension to a protected structure (grain mill). The proposed development lies within the zone of archaeological potential for Dundalk (SMR 7:119).
The method statement for the licence stated that a series of test-trenches would be excavated in the area of the proposed extension to the mill building and within the disused mill. A machine could not access the area of the mill, therefore test-trenches were only undertaken in the area of the proposed extension. As a consequence, monitoring will be required during any groundworks associated with the refurbishment of the mill. There were no archaeological remains recorded within the tested area.
